What Is Personalised Nutrition Coaching? (And Why It's Different to a Diet Plan)

If you've searched for "personalised nutrition coaching," chances are you've already tried a few generic diets that didn't stick. You're not alone. Most people who come to me have followed at least one meal plan, calorie app, or "clean eating" program that worked for a few weeks and then quietly fell apart.

So what's actually different about personalised nutrition coaching?

It starts with you, not a template

A generic diet plan starts with a set of rules and expects you to fit your life around them. Personalised nutrition coaching works the other way. We start with your current habits, your health history, your schedule, the foods you genuinely enjoy, and the barriers that have tripped you up before, and build a plan around that.

This matters more than it sounds. Two people with the same weight loss goal can need completely different approaches, depending on whether their biggest challenge is emotional eating, time pressure, shift work, digestive issues, or simply never having learned the basics of food and nutrition.

    It's a relationship, not a one-off download

A PDF meal plan can't adjust when your week goes sideways. Coaching can. Personalised nutrition coaching includes regular check-ins, so when something isn't working, we change it, rather than you quietly giving up and blaming yourself.

As a qualified Nutrition Coach, my role isn't to hand you a list of foods to avoid. It's to help you understand why certain patterns aren't working for your body and lifestyle, and to build habits that hold up once the initial motivation fades, which for almost everyone, it eventually does.

It looks at the whole picture

Weight, energy, digestion, sleep, and stress are all connected. A good coaching relationship looks at the full picture rather than isolating one number on a scale. That's part of why personalised approaches tend to produce changes that last, rather than the rebound many people experience after restrictive dieting.

    What a session actually involves

    A typical first session covers:

    • Your health history and current eating patterns
    • Your goals, in your own words, not a generic target
    • The barriers that have got in the way before
    • A written plan you can actually follow, with support to adjust it as life happens

    Is it right for you?

If you've tried the generic approach and it hasn't stuck, or you're tired of researching nutrition advice online that contradicts itself, personalised coaching is built for exactly that frustration. It won't promise overnight results, because no genuinely evidence-based approach can. What it offers is a plan built around your actual life, with someone in your corner while you build the habits that make it last.
