Booking your first nutrition coaching session can feel like a bigger step than it needs to be. A lot of people put it off because they're not sure what will actually happen, or worried they'll be judged for how they've been eating. So let's take the mystery out of it.
Before the session
You don't need to prepare a food diary, clean up your eating first, or have your goals perfectly worked out. Come as you are. My job in that first session is to understand your actual current situation, not an idealised version of it.
During the 60 minutes
A typical session with me covers:
- Your history and current patterns. We talk through your health background, how you're eating now, your energy levels, sleep, and stress. This isn't a test, it's context that shapes everything that follows.
- Your goals, in your words. Not "lose weight" as a vague target, but what that actually means for your life. More energy for your kids. Getting off the diet rollercoaster. Feeling in control around food again. The real goal underneath the surface one.
- The barriers that have got in the way before. If you've tried diets before and they haven't stuck, we look at why, honestly. This is often where the most useful insight comes from.
- Building your plan together. Rather than handing you a plan built for someone else, we shape one around your actual routine, food preferences, and lifestyle.
After the session
You leave with a written plan, not just a memory of what we discussed. That matters, because most people forget the specifics of a conversation within a day or two. Having something concrete to refer back to makes it far more likely you'll actually follow through.
What it's not
It's not a lecture. It's not a scale-only weigh-in. It's not a generic printout you could have found on Google. And it's not a program that assumes you've failed at everything before because you lacked willpower, most of the time, the plan simply wasn't built for your actual life.
Common questions before a first session
Do I need to change how I'm eating before I come in? No. I need to see your real patterns to help you effectively.
Will I be judged? No. My own path through health challenges has taught me that judgement never helped anyone change, understanding did.
Is one session enough? For some people, yes, particularly if they mainly need clarity and a plan. Others prefer ongoing support, which we can discuss after your first session, with no pressure either way.
